Luigi Melillo was born in 1947 in Bisaccia, a charming village in the province of Avellino where the tradition of stone extraction and processing is centuries old.

After returning from Switzerland, where he lived for 6 years, and professionally qualifying in fireplace installation, he began his self-taught journey into the world of stone carving when his mother died in 1997 after seeing the tombstone he had commissioned from a local artist being worked on.

Luigi has created carved stone portraits, decorative fireplaces, fountains, and both interior and exterior spaces. In 2009, he also completed the construction of a family-run hotel with his two sons Francesco and Mike and his friends Pasquale and Peppino.

The Albergo Locanda Domus Romulea features decorations and sculptures inside and out that represent the pinnacle of his talent and creativity.

Over the years, Luigi has participated in prestigious exhibitions held in evocative locations such as the Abbey of San Guglielmo al Goleto, the Castle of Leonessa in Montemiletto, the Norman Castle of Ariano Irpino, and the Ducal Castle of Bisaccia.

Since 2020, his production has focused on contemporary stone sculptures and busts of women carved from unique Italian marbles and stones, including lava stone, onyx stone, marble, travertine, Perlato del Molise, Pietra Rosa di Calitri, Onice di Gesualdo, and Carrara white marble.
